In an attempt to better understand an intelligence that is discarnate and one that "governs" the entire omniverse (the total sum of all extra dimensional realities including ours), let us graduate from the concepts of predeterminism and existentialism for a moment and ponder the possibility that we are not victims of predestination yet we do not have full control over our processes. Imagine that the omniverse itself is an evolving super sentient entity and perhaps one that develops based on a system of reincarnation. Then we can rid ourselves of that accursed first 10^-44 second of existence, which continues to elude theoretical physicists. This being is not to…

Music vs. Language Below is an excerpt of an interesting exchange on Tractarian Dualism that I’m having on another message board. The question posed by Chasm is very interesting. I’m curious as to what others think. ********************* Chasm: “As to the peripheral nature of language and its limitations, I've often wondered about other means of self-expression. I am not a musician, but you are. Do you find that in composing you are able to more precisely realise your intentions and thoughts than is typically possible when writing? And if so, do you think that is because of the abstract nature of the medium? Presumably our capacity for freedom of thought and express…

1) Compile a complete list of colors (represented with hexadecimal) which span the entire visible spectrum. This equates to millions upon millions of colors but will be necessary to maintain accuracy. The highest tone would stop at the penultimate shade of white allowing #FFFFFF to represent silence. The lowest audible tone will be represented by its polar opposite. 2) Next, compile a list of all audible frequencies (down to the cents - e.g. 439, 440 etc.). 3) Transpose sound to pitch. 4) Pick a piece of music (something simple to start out with) and break it down completely. By this I mean determine: a) The total number of beats in the song x total instrumentat…

"Would a tree falling in a forest make a sound if no one was there to hear it?" Essentially, what is being asked is: Despite the fact that we know sound is caused by vibrations which disrupt air molecules a la the domino effect, would it be foolish to assume that sound is still somehow reliant on the presence of a receiver. Per Dictionary.com: "Vibrations transmitted through an elastic solid or a liquid or gas, with frequencies in the approximate range of 20 to 20,000 hertz, capable of being detected by human organs of hearing." "Transmitted vibrations of any frequency." Sound doesn’t imply a perceiver anymore than death implies a victim…

Question: Does one have a consistent self? Self: The awareness resulting from the evolution of a network of memories and the stratification of those most significant. The self is comprised of a network of memories but this is irrelevant when discussing its integrity (not its constitution). The central element required is recall – which elements are the most relevant, thereby remaining within the vicinity of awareness? The elaborate and sophisticated evolution of the mind operates on a thought-by-thought basis. Stimuli immediately reconfigure cognitive cohesion upon perception. The “I” is the perceptive factor in the equation of the self that perpetually functions. It o…

I submit that Overman will never exist on the face of Earth (or within any other race included in the Drake Equation) because of three basic elements which apply to any sentient race: evolution, empathy and territorialism. Ubermensch inadvertently rests on the usurping of societal virtues and that’s more or less where it stops. Loeb and Leopold might have committed the crime of the century, but even if they had been able to emotionally dissociate themselves from the event (which they didn’t although Loeb, saturated in narcissism probably came close) it wouldn’t have altered the course of their primal minds on which these virtues rest. See, it’s not enough to expunge you…

My boyfriend's neighbors have the most gorgeous and fun-loving Mutt. He's medium sized, silky-haired orange-tan with white paws, a white face, and a black patch over the left eye. His name is 'Carson.' He can be a bit rambunctious by nature, but that's been augmented by the fact that his family hasn't shown him much love; they failed to research breed or size for their family's needs, and ended up getting a dog too big and too active for their yard and young child. They never play with him, and often leave him hooked up outside (however not under poor conditions; he has ample shelter, food and water), even when they are not at home. This has b…

Any time I find myself in a rut...I usually try to do something way outside my comfort zone. I highly recommend this. (I'm recently obesessed with the game of Rugby...primarily because I can't imagine myself playing it!) If you find yourself, inching outside your own personal comfort zone, post your experiences here...we all need a bit of inspiration after all...

I'll be moving to L.A. in January, and I know almost nothing about the city. So far, half of the people I've spoken to absolutely love the city and the other half describe it as one of the lower levels of hell. If anyone here has lived or spent a lot of time there, I would greatly appreciate any info, advice, or random comments, especially suggestions on where to/not to live. thanks.. Cesare

Does anybody agree with me that a book of Poe's poetry would rock? I love all of Poe's lyrics more than any other ones I've heard/read/whatever (even though this one Cyndi Lauper song has really nice words), and if she sold them as poems, I know I'd buy them.

A somewhat lengthy bio so....I was downloading some videos by The Smiths and noticed this guy directed some of them. It turns out he's also made a few videos for the Pet Shop Boys, and some other bands I've never heard of. My first encounter with Derek Jarman was a while back in my humanities class where we listened to Blue, the soundtrack to a blue screen, completed the year before he died. It was amazing...I was completely captivated by it at the time, so just now I looked up that bio thingy and found out he's done all sorts of stuff, some of which I'll probably look into someday. Apparently he's published a lot of his journals, and worked on a …
